Volunteer Opportunity in North Park
What:
We intend to build two "trail turnpikes" over persistently wet areas on the Rachel Carson Trail (not far from Harmar Shelter) in North Park. Help is needed for the following activities: digging, hauling logs, pounding re-bar into logs to hold them in place, moving and compacting gravel, laying out rock, partially burying the rock and pounding stones between rocks.
When:
- Saturday, May 25, from 9:00 to 1:00
- Sunday, May 26, from 1:00 to 5:00
- Saturday, June 1, from 9:00 to 1:00
- Sunday, June 2, from 9:00 to 1:00
- Saturday, June 8, from 9:00 to 1:00
- Sunday June 9, 9:00 to 1:00

Access the volunteer rosterhere. Important: If prompted, use rctc for both the user name and password. It's imperative that you sign-up using the online roster so we can plan accordingly.
Logistics and Tools:
We will supply as many tools as possible, but please, if you have any of the below-listed items, plan to bring to the worksite with you! If you have a vehicle that can help transport wheelbarrows, call or text Bob Mulshine at 412-741-0862 so he can coordinate logistics
- Vehicles (e.g. a pick-up truck) to help people transport their wheelbarrows.(Call or text Bob at 412-741-0862)
- Wheelbarrows (up to 5)
- Tampers to compress the gravel and crushed limestone.
- Heavy rakes to level the crushed gravel and limestone.
- Shovels to make trenches to stabilize the log walls.
- Rock Bars to move heavy rocks and to force small rocks between large one during rock armoring.
