Baker Trail Reroute
On Saturday, September 23, Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy (RCTC) joined forces with the North Country Trail Association (NCT) to complete a trail project on the northern section of the Baker Trail / NCT Trail. A team of volunteers from both organizations finished a reroute that removed about 1,000 feet of NCT/Baker Trail just north of Rt 66 in Vowinckel, PA. The old route went through a swampy area on a gas pipeline. The new route traverses higher ground and over a newly built bridge.
Saturday's work was the culmination of efforts that started earlier in the summer. Special thanks to the NCT Organizer, Dave Galbreath, and to the RCTC volunteers: Patty Brunner, Steve Mentzer, Thatch, Donna Stolz, and Jerry Oswald.
The NCT will be upgrading additional sections of trail south of Rt 66 in the coming year. Stay tuned for more exciting workdays and opportunities to get involved.
