Fun on the Harmony Trail
We need volunteers for spring cleaning on the Harmony Trail. We will get together on Sunday, May 21, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 p.m., rain or shine. Join us at the trailhead, in the parking lot on Route 910. (Click here for directions)
Volunteers will be grouped into teams and head for their workspace from the parking lot. We expect a number of adults and school-aged people. We will sign papers for school volunteer hours. Please dress for work and bring work gloves.
These are the primary tasks we would like to get done:
- Fill in potholes in parking lot
- Fill in eroded spots on the trail
- Remove invasives (privet, multiflora rose Japanese Barberry)
- Remove trash and abandoned pipe from stream, weather permitting (if interested bring high boots or hip-waders)
- Remove some concrete blocks near the trail by where we placed a railroad tie last year
- Cut off a steel pipe that sticks out of the ground on the hillside where we cut back the knotweed
- Install more effective water diversions coming down the hill onto the Marian Crossman bridge
- Clean the graffiti from the bridge
While we are on the topic of volunteers, we have a unique position to fill. This might be ideal for you or someone you know. RCTC is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. We need a volunteer to ensure that we are making the most use of this membership. The Chamber has many networking activities, educational events and social gatherings designed to be useful for working people. Our volunteer would be on the mailing list and review the emails for opportunities to promote RCTC. Currently we are doing nothing to use this membership so any level of participation will be an improvement.
If you are interested in being our representative to the Chamber or have any questions about the May 21 Volunteer Day, contact Bob Mulshine at bobmulshine@hotmail.com or 412-741-0862.
