We are getting together to spend some time and share our memories of Barb, hopefully on a beautiful Autumn day. All are welcome: friends, children, pets, strangers. Folks are also welcome to do just the hike or just the potluck lunch. Please bring your memories to share! If you'd like to bring some photos to share, we'll have a posterboard to pin up photos or news clippings for everyone to see.
9:00 | Meet at Emsworth shelter in North Park, coffee & doughnuts |
9:30 | Sharp!! Hike departs Emsworth shelter |
12:30 | Potluck lunch |
If you know you are coming and could let us know a couple days ahead of time, or even just let us know you are a "maybe" that would be a really big help for us to know how much to prepare. (And, if you're bringing something for the potluck, and could let us know this would definitely help us coordinate things.). Please note I do not do e-mail on weekends, so last minute e-mails on Sat will not be processed :). We will go ahead w/ hike and potluck, rain or shine.
THE HIKE will be a moderate hike, about 6-7 miles, around parts of the North Park perimeter trail. Brian McBane has GPS'd these trails and is selecting a hike and will have maps available. There will be some hills to get up on the ridges, but they will be moderate and we expect to keep a moderate 2.0-2.5mph pace.
THE POTLUCK will be at Emsworth shelter at 12:30. We will provide paper plates/cups/cutlery, hot coffee/water/chocolate/tea and cold water and ice. You are invited to bring side dish, main dish, dessert, beverage (non-alcoholic we don't have a permit, and, North Park does not allow glass bottles for any beverage). Please do not expect any electrical outlet to be available. I am assuming we will have cold dishes. If you would like to bring a hot dish you will need to bring your own campstove. We will have a car available at the shelter at 9AM, and a huge cooler, so you can drop off potluck contributions and keep them cool and protected from critters while we hike. There are picnic tables in the shelter but if folks have lawn chairs handy it wouldn't hurt to bring one.
VOLUNTEERS We will be looking for a lead and a sweep hiker to help keep the hike together. If by any chance there is someone who would like to do the lunch but not the hike, and could come a bit before 12:30 to help set up, that would be great. It would also be appreciated if a couple people could stay to help clean up.
