Wednesday, May 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. is RCTC's Annual Public Meeting at The Cabin in North Park. Join us for some food, socializing, elections and a year-in-review of our accomplishments. (Pot luck style! Bring some food to share!)
The headliner is at 7:00 p.m. Our featured speaker, Patricia DeMarco, Ph.D., will present "A Perspective on Rachel Carson's Silent Spring After 60 Years." Rachel Carson’s hikes and learning in the woods of Allegheny County launched her to a successful writing career and advocacy on behalf of public and ecological health. Her untimely passing in 1964 left a legacy that we honor with our Trail and inspires our every effort. DeMarco will share her unique and personal perspective on Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring and the citizen science it continues to inspire after 60 years.
Patricia DeMarco is a native of Pittsburgh, PA. with a doctorate in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh. She has spent a 30-year career in energy and environmental policy in both private and public sector positions. She is a Rachel Carson Scholar and served as Executive Director of the Rachel Carson Homestead Association and Director of the Rachel Carson Institute at Chatham University. She holds the office of Vice President of the Forest Hills Borough Council. She sits as Secretary on the Board of Trustees for Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
